The Red Panda is a beautiful ring-tailed animal that was discovered in 1825 by Federico Cuvier.
Its taxonomic classification has been the topic of great debate, although at the moment it is considered to be a relative of the Giant Panda. It also has similarities with the cat, and is related to raccoons. Its head is rounded, with a short, pointed muzzle colored white around the chin and cheeks. Its large ears are surrounded by long white hair, although the back of the animal is dark. With a long, soft coat, shades range from dark brown to yellow, reddish, dark brown and black. Male and females look the same..
Red pandas are found in the temperate forests of Asian countries such as Bhutan, India, Laos, China and Nepal
The Red Panda is a great climber, so it spends most of its life sleeping on tree branches. A nocturnal animal, its activity peaks at dusk and dawn.
It lives in pairs or in family clans, and feeds mainly on bamboo. Females give birth to their young in spring, after 135 days of gestation. Cubs remain with their parents for almost a year.
